at present, the situation faced by China's food packaging industry is not optimistic. Many food packaging materials in the market are difficult to meet the national requirements for food safety, health and environmental protection. Aromatic solvents such as toluene are widely used

according to statistics, in 2004, among the plastic inks for food and drug packaging produced by large-scale manufacturers in China, the amount of chlorinated polypropylene inks used for BOPP film printing accounted for more than 60%, while the amount of benzene solvents generally accounted for 50% of the ink solvents and dilution solvents in the system, which not only harmed human health, but also affected the healthy development of China's food packaging industry and even the whole food industry

I. Development Status of food flexible packaging

at present, China's food packaging bags are basically gravure printing. We see a variety of food packaging bags in the operation city of super convenient experimenters, including biscuits, pastries, milk powder and other packaging, which are basically printed with chlorinated polypropylene ink. The operation of each machine is based on technical parameters. Most European and American countries use flexo printing. Flexo printing is slightly inferior to gravure printing in point performance, and the printing quality is low, but it takes the lead in environmental protection. This is because the U.S. government has formulated tough environmental protection regulations, coupled with good social education. At this stage, consumers tend to use environmental protection products as long as they do not monopolize the market

however, in China, flexo printing and other environmental protection technologies are not well accepted in the market. Because flexo printing uses the principle of embossing, compared with the gravure printing with thick oil and heavy color, it has less coloring ink, is thinner, and the degree of coloring is not very high. In terms of brightness, it is not as bright as the gravure printing. Domestic flexible packaging consumption has been in the mindset of gravure printing with strong coloring and high brightness for a long time, so it is not very able to accept the printing technology of this new environmental protection concept. Therefore, gravure printing will continue to maintain its absolute leading position in plastic flexible packaging printing

at present, benzene solvent based inks account for a large proportion of plastic gravure printing inks in China, while developed countries such as Europe and the United States clearly prohibit the use of benzene solvents in food packaging and printing, and flexible packaging inks can only use alcohols, esters and water as solvents. Because aromatics are suspected of causing cancer, they are not allowed to be used in printing inks such as food packaging and toys. The use of ketone solvents is also greatly restricted because of their strong odor. Therefore, in food packaging inks in Europe, America and other regions, the solvent residue is specified as ethyl acetate, and the content of isopropanol is not more than 5mg/m2. The U.S. Food and drug administration has clearly specified the types of adhesives and inks used for food or drug packaging. As long as they are chemicals not mentioned in the regulations, they are prohibited. Therefore, the application of alcohol soluble, ester, water-based and other environmentally friendly benzene free inks in plastic gravure printing will be increasingly concerned by the industry, and will dominate the food and drug packaging ink market

II. The greening of soft food packaging is urgent.

benzene solvents are highly toxic and have been listed as carcinogenic chemicals by FDA. If such solvents penetrate into the skin or blood vessels, the recovery rate will increase by only 3% with the packaging paper and cultural paper. The blood will endanger people's blood cells and hematopoietic function, damage the human nervous system, and even lead to leukemia. Benzene solvents remaining in the package are easy to be adsorbed by the food in the package, resulting in food pollution. Although the benzene soluble ink can remove most of the toluene solvent by drying during printing, it is still easy to produce residues due to the strong adsorption of pigments in the ink

as early as 1995, the gravure printing industry Federation of Japan issued a proposal to "promote benzene free", and end users put forward the requirement to control the residue of food packaging solvent below 1mg/m2. NL's independent regulations prohibiting the use of benzene containing inks on food packaging bags were issued. However, in China's current food packaging bag standards, the solvent residue is required to be 10mg/m2, but the type of solvent is not clearly indicated; The recommended requirement for toluene is < 3mg/m2. Recently, the CCTV quality report broadcast the Lanzhou "toxic milk powder bag" incident. Due to the excessive toluene solvent residue, the unqualified rate of food packaging bags was as high as 50%, and the food safety problem was very serious, which aroused widespread concern of the whole society. To this end, the state will also issue relevant mandatory standards for food packaging materials next year. Benzene containing inks will be strictly restricted by relevant national laws and regulations, and even prohibited from being used in the packaging and printing of food and drugs
